Designed as an event to both raise awareness of the country’s number-one health risk and combat that risk by encouraging runners to train for the event, the Run for Your Heart Half Marathon makes its 12th annual running along the Saginaw River and a pair of crossings over the Court Street bridge that spans the river.

Race organizers plan to donate all proceeds from the race to fighting heart disease in the mid-Michigan area, by giving grants to regional programs that seek to help people improve their cardiovascular health and fitness.

On the day of the event, runners will line up at line up at the starting line at the offices of the Michigan CardioVascular Institute, just off Remington Street and Washington Avenue.

From there, the course follows an out-and-back route through the streets of Saginaw, first through the newly renovated Hoyt Park and then along an out-and-back stretch along Wickespark Drive, which runs alongside the Saginaw River.

Later stretches of the race unfold through Saginaw’s Old Town business district, Wickes Park and Rust Park, Celebration Square and Ojibway Island near the end of the race, as runners are making their way through the final mile along the Saginaw Riverwalk back to MCVI for the race finish.

There’s also a long out-and-back stretch along Court Street, which takes runners through the residential neighborhoods that lead up to Arthur Hill High School, which is mostly flat and fast.

Race Weather & Climate
