Now something of a local tradition in this town located about 40 miles south of Boston in the area known as the South Shore near Cape Cod, the race raises money for and awareness of Plymouth’s Boys & Girls Club After School fitness programs.

The course for the half marathon begins in the Miles Standish State Forest near College Pond, and follows a course made up entirely of paved roads, which winds slightly northwest toward Plymouth throughout, running parallel along State Route 3. Described by past participants as a course with “big, rolling hills,” the race presents perhaps its toughest challenge around mile 11, with a big uphill stretch near Jordan Hospital along Sandwich Street as runners near downtown Plymouth. The finish line offers the reward for runners who’ve braved what are often very warm conditions this time of year, as the race finishes at the Plymouth Harbor Marina, where runners may get relief from the water if they wish.

More than 1,000 runners cross the finish line each September at the annual Run To The Rock Half Marathon, 10K & 5K, which takes runners from the Miles Standish State Forest on a course northward toward the home of the famous landmark Plymouth Rock, where pilgrims on the Mayflower landed in the early 1600s.
