active reg buttonTake a run through the heart of New Jersey’s Rutgers University at the UNITE Half Marathon, which makes its 11th annual running on this state’s road race calendar this spring after adding the 8K race distance for the first time a couple years back.

Runners make their way along a beautifully scenic point-to-point course that unfolds through three of the university’s campuses, and the race also features music from live bands stationed along the course, as well as water stations manned by volunteers from the university’s fraternities and sororities all along the 13.1-mile route.

From the starting line on Bartholomew Road next to the university’s Busch Campus, the half marathon starts its winding route through New Brunswick by taking runners first southward through a few twists and turns on campus streets and then northward toward the Livingston Campus, taking runners past the northern edge of Rutgers’ Ecological Preserve along the way.

This stretch features cheerleaders cheering runners on as well as views of Yurcak Field, the school’s soccer and lacrosse facility, and the recently renovated Rutgers Stadium.

The next stretch of the race takes runners westward from the Livingston campus on toward the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, followed by what is perhaps the race’s biggest downhill stretch, as runners are making their way through miles 6 and 7 on the way from the campus to Johnson Park, which parallels the river.

Runners spend the next three or so miles making their way through Johnson Park, and then head across the bridge at Landing Lane to the river’s southern bank, heading through Buccleugh Park (where, in the center of the park, a band will be playing for runners in the park’s gazebo) to the finish line at Rutgers’ College Avenue campus.

Race Weather & Climate

Located in central eastern New Jersey, roughly 40 miles southwest of New York City, New Brunswick typically experiences cool to sometimes mild weather conditions in the mid-spring season, and relatively even precipitation throughout the year.

On race day (April 19), the average low is 38ºF and the average high is 61ºF.
