Get ready to rock and roll at the Sarasota Music Half Marathon, a southwestern Florida event that promises lots of music and fun along 13.1 miles of Sarasota, Florida. As much of a party as it is a half marathon, the Sarasota Music Half Marathon provides a fun race while supporting local non-profits and encouraging fitness.
Starting at the Van Wezel Performing Arts Center in Sarasota, the half marathon course takes runners across the Ringling Bridge to St. Armand’s Circle and back, past Marina Jack Bayfront Marina and some of the old Sarasota neighborhoods before leading runners to the finish line back at the Performing Arts Center.
What makes this event really stand out is the music theme. Runners will pass 20 bands across 42 locations on the half marathon course, all of them providing entertainment and motivation to runners on the course. Spectators are encouraged to enjoy the bands and make a party of the event — and of course, coming out to watch the bands and runners is free for spectators.
From local high school marching bands to dance music to rock and roll, there’s music for everyone to enjoy during the race.
The course provides nine aid stations, located every mile and a half along the course, that offer water and sports drinks, as well as Girl Scout cookies at mile 8.5. A post-race party provides music, fun, and beer (for racers over 21).
The race time limit is four hours, and the half marathon is open to walkers and wheelchair racers as well as runners.

Located in southwestern Florida along the Gulf of Mexico, Sarasota experiences cool to mild weather in February, along with moderate precipitation. February temperatures average between 53°F and 74°F.
On the day of the race (Feb. 13), the average low is 52°F and the average high is 73°F — while precipitation amounts average just under 2.7 inches for the month.
