Runners get to enjoy a fast, flat road race with beach and oceanfront views at the Ocean Running Club’s Seaside Half Marathon & 5K, which welcomes both runners and walkers for this race along the Jersey boardwalk and into Island Beach State Park, which saw more than 400 runners cross the finish line last year.
Not to be confused with the event by the same name in Seaside, Florida, this race is run by many participants with an eye on gearing up for fall marathons in the New York and New Jersey areas, and will celebrate its 47th annual running this year.
The race benefits the Tri-Boro First Aid Squad of Seaside Heights, Seaside Park and Berkeley Township, and the Ocean Running Club Scholarship Fund.
The terrain for this out-and-back race is a combination of flat, sturdy wooden surfaces (the boardwalk sections of the course, which route through Seaside Park) and paved city streets along Seaside Heights’s iconic Jersey shoreline.
The event also includes a 5K run, which begins an hour before the 9:00 AM starting time for the half marathon, as well as the Seaside Challenge, which includes both the 5K and the half marathon — you’ll get three medals if you complete it!
