What better way to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day than to go on a run and drink beer? The race organizers of El Cajon’s St. Patrick’s Day Half Marathon recognized this celebration and embraced it, creating an event that not only gives runners a chance to run through the heart of El Cajon but to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in a fun way that gets the community involved.
Runners start the half marathon at Main Street in downtown El Cajon, then proceed to run down Main Street and south on Jamacha Road. After turning around at the halfway point — Cuyamaca College — runners make their way back to the finish line, retracing the steps of the first six miles.
But it’s not only about running 13.1 miles at the St. Patrick’s Day Half Marathon. The event also features a race expo the day before the race, as well as a finish line festival; both activities are open to the public.
The race also features an Irish-inspired costume contest, school participant incentives, and corporate challenges so the entire community can get involved during race weekend.
The race time limit is three hours, making the half marathon for runners and wheelchair athletes only.
