Note: There is currently no Starlight Half Marathon distance planned for 2016. The information below refers to the 2015 event.

An officially incorporated city only since 1999, this small metro area about an hour south of Jacksonville has quickly mushroomed into one of the nation’s fastest-growing cities, nearly doubling its population between 2000 and 2010.

Its flat, fast terrain and beaches make it a perfect location for running, especially in the winter, a fact that helped organizers start the all-new Starlight Half Marathon that’s set for mid-December.

Runners will follow an out-and-back course for the race that starts and finishes in Central Park at Town Center, the 1,500-acre mixed-use development that serves as Palm Coast’s downtown retail and shopping district.

From there, runners will wind their way along the streets of Town Center and the surrounding city, at a nighttime run that takes advantage of the cooler air and lower humidity this time of year has to offer.

Organized by Triumph Endurance Events, a Flagler Beach-based race management company that also features a 50-mile relay run in November and “Sup’n Runnin'” paddle-board-and-running race in May, the Starlight Half will feature holiday lights and decorations throughout the course, and a Christmas Tree-lined finishing stretch where runners can get free beer, hot chocolate, coffee, and s’mores after the race.

Race Weather & Climate

Nestled Florida’s Atlantic coastline, just south of St. Augustine and north of Daytona Beach, Palm Coast typically sees December temperatures that average between 49°F and 71°F, while precipitation totals average just over 2.5 inches, which ties November for the city’s driest month of the year.

On the day of the race (Dec. 19), the average low is 48°F and the average high is 70°F.
