Runners start the out-and-back course for the half marathon near the picnic area – the same spot where those running the 10K start – and then head out on what is (very!) roughly a counter-clockwise loop route through the woods and along the lakeshore.
You’ll wind your way along many of the park’s 15 miles of single-track trails, hewing close to the lakeshore in some stretches while other stretches take you through the woods. You’ll experience several bridge crossings during the half marathon, organizers note, as well as plenty of views of the lake.
Lodging for the race weekend will be available in Tims Ford State Park, and organizers ask that if you cannot maintain a pace of 18 minutes per mile or faster for the half marathon, that you please consider running the 10K instead.
