Part of a series of road races known as the Holiday 5000 Series and organized by the Fort Worth-based Cox Running Club, the Thanksgiving Day Half Marathon & 5K takes runners on an out-and-back course that starts and finishes in Trinity Park, along the banks of the Trinity River that flows through the heart of this city that’s famous for its “Cowtown” past.
Runners start the race at the Trinity Park pavilion number 1, and from there they head out onto the trails that wind along the river, known as the Fort Worth Branch of the Trinity Trail system, which includes more than 40 miles of biking, running, walking and horseback trails that connect 21 parks, the Fort Worth Botanic Gardens, the Fort Worth Zoo and the historic Stockyards, among many other local landmarks.
Organizers say the course for the race is fast and flat, and that finishes will receive both a custom finisher’s medal as well as a technical race t-shirt. Age group awards will be presented to the top 3 finishers in each five-year age bracket, and there will also be a 5K that’s open to runners and walkers as well as a 1K fun run.
