Along the Richardson Bay in Tiburon, California, the Whole Foods Tiburon Half Marathon, 10K & 5K offers 13.1 miles of ocean views in late September. Runners will encounter a few climbs along the way in this out-and-back course despite the proximity to sea level.

Tiburon is a commuter and tourist town with fast ferry trips to San Francisco. Inspired for the Spanish word for shark (tiburón), the town’s name likely came from locally native leopard sharks that frequent the surrounding waters.

Runners will begin the race near the edge of the peninsula near the city of Belvedere. The race will head south for a short section and through Shoreline Park Point Tiburon. Near the 1 mile marker, runners will turn around and go north on Tiburon Boulevard.

The course continues along Tiburon Boulevard for nearly 2 more miles and then runners will take a slight left onto Tiburon Linear Park.

The next section takes runners through McKegney Field and around the top portion of the Bay. They will continue through mile 4 along Greenwood Beach Road and Harbor Cove Way.

At mile marker 5, the course will go right on East Strawberry Drive and a left on Belvedere Drive. Runners will complete an out-and-back section along Belvedere Drive before reaching the 6th mile marker.

Once they return to Ricardo Road, racers will head towards the halfway point. The loop turnaround continues with a left on Seminary Drive and scenic views of the water can been seen along miles 7 and 8. A loop around Great Circle Drive will return the course back to East Strawberry Drive where runners will begin to make their descent to the finish.

With water views on the right, the course will continue south along Tiburon Boulevard. Runners will kick it into the finish where they will cross Mar West Street and collect their medal.
