Overview

The Trapp Cabin Trail Races bring runners into the rarely open trail network of the von Trapp Family Outdoor Center, just outside Stowe. Organized by Green Mountain Adaptive Sports, this race weekend offers 5K, 10K, and a scenic Trail Half Marathon, each course winding through private single-track and track loops not accessible year‑round.

🏃 Course & Runner Experience

Starting at 9:00 AM, all distances follow Sugar Road into Russel Knoll Track. The 10K continues via Chris’s Run, Growler, Tapline, and Lodge Spur before finishing at the Outdoor Center. The Half Marathon doubles the 10K loop for a 10.5 km circuit repeated twice. The 5K branches via Old County Road then rejoins Tapline to complete the circuit. Bib pickup opens at 7:30 AM, and on-site late registration closes at 8:55 AM via the Run The Day app.

🎗 Community & Purpose

As a major fundraiser for Green Mountain Adaptive Sports, the event combines trail running access with social impact. Proceeds support adaptive veterans and youth programs. Participants receive a participation medal, and top finishers earn special rewards—like Darn Tough socks. Post-race refreshments and a medal ceremony round out the experience.

With usually 150–200 half‑marathon participants, limited trail access, and low-key festival energy, this race is perfect for trail lovers seeking scenic loops and small-community vibes in the Green Mountains.

Course Description

A challenging half and full marathon distance trail run in the heart of the Green Mountains at beautiful Trapp Family Lodge. Our course features a significant amount of winding single track,  plus rugged dirt and gravel road/trail sections, and a scrambling climb to the summit of Round Top Mountain with breathtaking views of Mount Mansfield. In total, runners will gain and lose 1900ft of elevation per loop. That means a solid 3800ft for the full marathon! There is a 4pm cut-off for all runners.

Fall is the best time to visit Vermont and we think that running through crisp, colorful, fall foliage on the Trapp Lodge trail system is just the way to do it. October is a particularly special time to be in Stowe, winter is just around the corner and Oktoberfest is in full swing in and around town.
