Overview

Set for its 20th annual running around a trio of lakes that lie just a short north of downtown Greensboro, the Triple Lakes Trail race takes runners around the linear nature trails known as the Watershed Trail System that wind their way along the shorelines of Lake Brandt, Lake Higgins and Lake Townsend.

The race that follows an out-and-back loop course around the lakes, with the starting and finish line at Bur Mil Park on Owl’s Roost Road, just off Highway 220 (also known as Battleground Avenue). From there, runners in the half marathon make a clockwise loop around Lake Brandt, returning to the park where they started for the race finish line.

Course Description

With the exception of the start and finish area, nearly all of the race route takes runners on the natural, primitive linear trails that make up Greensboro’s Watershed Trail System, which spans some 42 miles of nature trails around Lakes Higgins, Brandt, Jeanette and Townsend, as well as stretches in and around the nearby Gullford Courthouse National Military Park.
Aid stations with water and refreshments will be available out on the course, though runners are encouraged to bring along their own water bottles with them — and make sure they carry out whatever they bring in on the trails.
Runners who don’t want to trek 40 kilometers or 40 miles all by themselves can put together relay teams, which can consist of 2 to 5 runners for the 40K and 2 to 8 runners for the 40-miler.
