Topping out at just 50 feet above sea level at its highest point, the Ventura Half Marathon definitely meets its race director’s goal of creating a fast, flat and scenic course with an epic beach finish — and with a full marathon, 5K, kids race and bike rides in addition to the 13.1-miler, there are events for every competitor.
Runners will begin in front of the Ventura Pier and head south on Harbor Boulevard. They will take the course through San Buenaventura State Beach for the first mile and then runners will make a right on San Pedro Street.
A left on Pierpont Boulevard will offer runners beautiful views of the Pacific Ocean on their right as they head into the 2nd mile; that’s followed by a left on Peninsula Street and a quick right on Harbor Boulevard to carry runners through almost the 4th mile.
The course continues on a short out-and-back section on Spinnaker Drive and then runners will keep going south on Harbor Boulevard. As the course crosses over the Santa Clara River, runners will be entering the second half of the race. Just past mile marker 7, runners will make a u-turn and begin to head north.
Runners will make their way along Harbor Boulevard and run the course in reverse save for the out-and-back section along Spinnaker Drive. They will make their way back to San Buenaventura State Beach and make a slight left to finish just south of the Ventura Pier.
All racers have a generous 5 hours to complete the course so walkers are welcome. Those vying for a fast time can rack up an age group award that go 3 deep in each category. All registered runners will receive a tech running shirt and finishers will receive a medal.
Hang around after the race is over at the post-race beach party, which will feature a beer garden, arts & crafts booths, local vendors, and live music, so runners with extra energy can find plenty to do.
