60th Year! One of the longest running marathons in the country!

The Race of Champions Marathon is held in memory of Walter H. Childs Sr., the founder of the race who died in 1991. The race served as the AAU National Championships and was the Pan American qualifier in the late 60’s. Nearly 60 years later it is one of the oldest running marathons in the United States and the world.

The course is USATF sanctioned event, certified course, and Boston Marathon Qualifier. The course is a six equal loops around scenic Ashley Reservoir which is a packed dirt & gravel mixture. In early May the course can vary between dry & firm, a bit of loose gravel mix, or a bit muddy.
