More than 600 runners cross the finish line each year in both races combined at the annual springtime running of the Westfield Half Marathon, 10K & 5K, with more than 300 of those runners completing the 13.1-mile race alone in recent years.
Run to benefit the local Boys and Girls Club organization in this town of about 40,000 residents in the southern central part of the state, the race takes runners on a tour of the rural areas just outside of town, along a course marked by plenty of green, rolling hills, especially in the race’s first few miles.
Race organizers tout the course as a “great tune-up” for the Boston Marathon later the next month, and that most of the hills along the course occur in the first 4 miles.
While the half marathon is for runners, the 5K is open to both runners and walkers. Registration is available on the day of the race at the Boys & Girls Club, and the race starts at the same place at 9:00 AM.
Runners will have a course time limit of 4 hours for the half marathon, which means they’ll need to keep a pace of 18:19 minutes per mile or faster. The race was formerly known as the Oleksak Lumber Half Marathon.

Located in western Massachusetts, about 10 miles west of Springfield and roughly 95 miles southwest of Boston, Westfield typically sees September temperatures that average between the mid-50s and the high 70s, while precipitation amounts average about 3 inches for the month.
On the day of the race (Sep. 10), the average low is 56°F and the average high is 79°F.
