Set for its first-ever running this summer, the all-new WineShine Half Marathon unfolds along the roads and trails of this gorgeous town in the heart of the Napa Valley wine-growing region, where you can take in the vineyards and hills in the distance along the race route and take in visits to the wineries before and after you finish your 13.1 miles.
“This two-lane country road, trimmed with shady oaks and world-class vineyards, is quintessential Napa Valley. Its surrounding land is dotted with so many wineries that you could travel it for a week straight and still not visit all of them. Constructed in 1852 as the first permanent road linking the 30 or so miles between the towns of Napa and Calistoga, the Silverado Trail is the bucolic, parallel counterpart to busier State Highway 29. Enjoy the drive along this scenic route (or rent a bike and pedal the whole way), snuggled up against the valley’s eastern hills.”
That’s how California tourism officials describe the scenic road on which you’ll run most of the race, the famed Silverado Trail, where you can visit famous wineries like Joseph Phelps, ZD Wines, Signorello Winery and Mumm Napa — and where you’ll be able to enjoy a wine tasting after your run at the finish line festival.
Runners will start the race on the grounds of the Silverado Resort & Spa, a golf and tennis resort just off Atlas Peak Road, and from there make their way along Atlas Peak and Monticello Road before turning onto Silverado Trail.
Once you’re on Silverado, the race is a long straightaway for the next several miles to the turnaround point at roughly the mile 8 marker, near Regusci Winery.
After you make the turn there, you’ll retrace your steps for roughly the next three miles before turning onto Hardman Road, which will bring you back to the Silverado Resort for the race finish.
At the finish line festival, all runners who complete the half marathon will receive a complimentary wine glass for unlimited wine tastings, and organizers say that famed marathoner Deena Kastor will also be on hand to kick off the race.
