Columbia, SC

Saturday, November 7, 2009

Event Details

One of South Carolina's marquee running events (and part of its Palmetto Grand Prix and Tour de Columbia race events) the Governor's Cup Road Race features a series of events over the weekend, including the half marathon, an 8K run, a 4-mile walk and a kids' fun run. The course for the half is described by organizers as scenic with plenty of "rolling terrain," as the city is known for its hills, and includes an uphill finishing stretch.

Run entirely along paved surfaces, the Governor's Cup half-marathon starts downtown near the South Carolina State House, taking runners on a tour of the city through historic neighborhoods such as Five Points and Shandon, and ends at the University of South Carolina "horseshoe" area.

Race Weather & Climate

The early weeks of fall bring mild, cooling weather to the Piedmont region of South Carolina, where Columbia lies. The city sees average temperatures during the month of between 54°F and 79°F, and rainfall that averages around 2.89 inches for the month.

Fees

2008 fees:
$45 for half marathon participants (before Oct. 1; $55 for late entrants)
$20 for 8K runners and 4-Mile walkers ($25 after Oct. 1)
$10 for participants in the Kids' Fun Run
