Get your miles in on foot or by bike during the Aliferis Memorial Race Half Marathon 5K & 1M, held annually in the coastal northern Michigan town of Alpena.

You’ll support a worthy cause without breaking the bank. This race, which is held in memory of Dr. Peter Aliferis, a long-time Alpena pathologist at MyMichigan Medical Center, is a fundraiser for the Center’s Peter Aliferis Scholarship Fund, the Cancer Center, and patient-enhancement projects and new technology.

The half marathon is a straightforward point-to-point course. Shuttles will be available at 6:30 am on race day to take runners to the half marathon’s start at the corner of Maple Lane Road and Zawalski Road. From there, runners will follow the North Eastern State Trail, a relatively flat crushed limestone trail, to the end point at MyMichigan Medical Center Alpena. Along the way, five water stops will be available for runners to rehydrate. In addition to the half marathon, 5K, and 1 mile, the Aliferis Memorial Race also features an 18.5-mile bike ride (paved and gravel) and 6.5-mile tour (paved), each of which takes participants through a looped course around Alpena.
