Overview

Every January in Arvada, Colorado, All‑Out Multicourse Productions brings festive energy to winter running with the Polar Prowl—featuring 5K, 10K, and USATF‑certified half marathon distances. Now in its 13th year, this event is a well-loved fixture on the winter race calendar.

The half marathon begins at 9:00 AM MST from Stenger Soccer Complex and follows a double out-and-back route along the scenic Van Bibber Creek Trail. With minimal elevation (~mostly flat), concrete/smooth trail surfaces, and twelve fueling stations spaced every ~1.2 miles, it’s a fast and supportive course designed for PRs—even in winter conditions.

This race is equally celebrated for its logistics: ample aid (water, electrolytes, gels), portable restrooms, and a post-race spread featuring breakfast tacos, fruit, bagels, and chocolate milk for all finishers.

It’s a community-centric, winter-warm event—walker- and dog-friendly, with relaxed pacing but serious volunteer support. A Reddit report from 2018 mentioned icy sections near the start-line but praised the trail itself and scenic backdrop, including Rocky Mountain views.

Whether you’re aiming for a cold-weather PR or just looking to embrace the new year with a festive run, the Polar Prowl mixes performance, practicality, and playful winter spirit.

Why You’ll Love It

Course Description

Half marathon participants will start from the Stenger parking lot and head south to connect with the Van Bibber Creek Trail. After making a right-hand turn (westbound), they’ll run about 2.5 miles to reach the first turnaround point on this double out-and-back, two-lap course. From there, runners will head east, turn around, and pass the northbound section to begin their second lap (and set your Strava lap point). After completing the eastbound section for the second time, they’ll head toward the finish line. There will be 10 fueling stations and 4 toilets along the route to keep you fueled and refreshed.
