Set against Colorado’s majestic Frying Pan Valley, the Basalt Half Marathon is a beloved point‑to‑point downhill event, launching runners on Saturday, May 31, 2025. Beginning with a short quarter‑mile dirt stretch at the top of Frying Pan Road, the course descends approximately 1,000 ft over 13.1 miles—ideal for fast times and stunning alpine scenery.
Buses transport participants from Basalt Middle School at 7:00 AM, with the race officially starting around 7:45 AM, giving cooler conditions for the early miles. Aid comes via four stations along the paved route, with every mile clearly marked. Traffic is minimal, but when vehicles are present, runners are instructed to stay single-file, facing traffic for safety.
This event benefits Basalt High School’s Cross Country team—each finish supports local youth athletics—while drawing a field of 100–500 runners, including relay teams who swap halfway at the exchange zone.
Relays offer a chance to split the experience with a teammate, and top finishers in each 10‑year age group (plus overall relay awards) are honored at the finish.
