In its 11th year, the Black Squirrel Half Marathon in beautiful Fort Collins, Colorado is an event defined by both its high-elevation climbs and its spectacular rewarded views of the Colorado Rockies.

Scenic Views, Trail Runners. Covering a variety of terrain, both technical and non-technical, this course may be challenging for some. Throughout the course, runners can expect high-elevation climbs that are rewarded by spectacular views of the Rocky Mountain Peaks.

Offering a parameter tour of several landmarks including breathtaking views of Horsetooth Reservoir, Fort Collins, and the Great Plains, this September event isn’t one to miss out on.

Hosted along the trails of Lory State Park on some of the best trails that Fort Collins, Colorado has to offer, this course guides runners through various landmarks marked by pink and red ribbons. At mile 4.5, runners will have reached aid station #1 at Timber/Westridge. Following is the second aid station along Arthur’s West at mile 8.3. From there runners take Arthur’s East, reaching the third aid station at mile 10.3. Concluding, it’s a final push toward the finish line at Soldier Canyon… This event has a 350-person cap and a 5.5-hour time allowance, making for a moderately small and inclusive race, great for runners and walkers alike. Those who register can expect to receive a gender-specific race shirt, a pint glass for finishing, age group awards, and of course, a post-race celebration comprising a decadent pancake breakfast.
