Saturday, March 23, 2019 • Irving, TX • Course Map
Set for its 5th annual running here in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex in mid-November, Grand Prairie’s Blue Red Run Half Marathon & 10K is designed as a benefit for the locally-based Firefighter & Police Officers Memorial fund and charities as well as Michael’s Memories, a nonprofit that funds all-expense-paid family vacations for firefighters who are fighting cancer.
The race is set to take runners on an out-and-back course that starts and finishes at the Verizon Theatre in Grand Prairie, in between Grand Prairie and Irving. From there, the race is almost all flat, with an elevation change of less than 250 feet, making this course a great one to set a new PR on.
(Once the home of the Dallas Cowboys NFL stadium, Irving’s most notable sight today is probably the Mustangs at Las Colinas, a bronze statue of several horses at 1 1/2 times life size that is considered the world’s largest equestrian statue.)
The first half of the course is mostly downhill with some slight uphill sections. From the Verizon Theatre, the course begins along Pollock Place and West Hunter Ferrell Road before connecting to the Campion Trails, following the West Fork Trinity River for much of the course. The course goes through the Mountain Creek Preserve around mile 4 (and back again around mile 8). After reaching the turnaround point at the Twin Wells Golf Course, runners turn around and retrace their steps before crossing the finish line back at the Verizon Theatre.
Fast, almost all flat and the chance to run for a great cause — helping firefighters and their families take a break from the pain and trauma of cancer care, as well as the Texas Police Chiefs Association Foundation memorial charity.
