The Chunky Monkey Epilepsy Run, held in memory of Mathias Lee Koch, is a heartfelt event set for Saturday, November 4th, 2023, with a meaningful purple theme to symbolize epilepsy awareness. This special run, detailed at www.chunkymonkeyrun.com, encompasses a Half Marathon, a 5K (available both in-person and virtually), and a kid’s run, catering to all ages and abilities. Participants are encouraged to register online by November 3rd to be part of this impactful day, with an early registration deadline of October 14th to ensure receipt of a commemorative shirt.
This year’s run also includes a Blanket Drive aimed at providing comfort to families in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at the American Family Children’s Hospital, with a goal to support 200 families, reflecting the community’s deep compassion and commitment to making a difference.
The Half Marathon promises a challenging and scenic route with its emphasis on hills, offering water and Gatorade stations along the course for runner support. The kid’s run features races for various age groups, starting with a Diaper Dash for the youngest participants, up to a 400 Meter Dash for children aged 8-10, all taking place on the 9th Fairway.
For those unable to attend in person, the 5K Virtual Run/Walk allows participants to run their own course anytime during the week of October 31-November 4, 2023, and submit their times online, fostering a sense of community and support regardless of location.
While there will be no official awards ceremony, Half Marathon finishers can collect their medals from a designated table, ensuring every participant’s achievement is recognized. This approach, along with the absence of race day registration, highlights the event’s focus on safety and organization. The Chunky Monkey Epilepsy Run stands out not only for its challenging courses and the cause it supports but also for its commitment to fostering a supportive community atmosphere.
