Overview

Country Roads Trail Run, part of the Spartan Trail series. Set within the large-scale Spartan Trifecta World Championship festival at the renowned Summit Bechtel Reserve near New River Gorge, this event offers both a 10 K and Half Marathon (21 K) on winding, technical forest trails. These races blend trail-run simplicity with obstacle festival energy.

🏃 Race Experience & Terrain

The 10 K starts at 08:50 AM, followed by the Half Marathon at 08:45 AM—runners receive gun times for ranking. The course navigates lush, jungle-like Appalachian forest, weaving between single-track trails, forest clearings, and punchy climbs. Expect runnable stretches interrupted by steep, technical sections and trail surprises.

Participants compete amid the wider Spartan Trifecta Festival, sharing the stage with OCR events like Sprint, Super, and Beast races. While no obstacles are part of these trail runs, the festival energy, live music, food trucks, and shared festival grounds amplify the event’s appeal.

🎯 What Makes It Unique

This is not just a trail run; it’s a Spartan Trail event—packed with community energy, capped fields (115 per wave), eco-conscious design (cupless aid stations), and an energetic backdrop of racing culture. It’s ideal for runners craving technical trail challenge within a supportive festival environment, minus the obstacle demands.

The Spartan Trail West Virginia Experience is a hybrid trail run set within the high-energy Spartan OCR festival at Summit Bechtel Reserve. With its technical single-track, lush Appalachian setting, capped waves, and environmental ethos, it offers an ideal escape for trail runners who also crave community spirit and festival-day atmosphere—without walls or ropes to climb.
