Whether you’re young or young at heart, join your fellow women racers at the Detroit Goddess Half Marathon on Belle Isle. Known as the Detroit Women’s Half Marathon until being renamed the Detroit Goddess Half Marathon in 2016, the entire half marathon is run on Belle Isle State Park, a park on Belle Isle in Detroit.
Starting at the Raceway at Belle Isle, the half marathon begins by heading east along Central Avenue near the center of the island, traversing almost the entire island before turning left onto Lakeside Drive. From here runners continue along the northern coast of Belle Isle, with some rolling hills along the southwestern part of the island.
The next section of the course continues along the southern part of Belle Isle, providing runners with a view of Canada in the distance. After reaching the eastern part of the island, the half marathon retraces its steps along the northern part of the island as well as half of the southern coast before turning onto Vista Drive and Loiter Way just before mile 12. From there runners continue west toward the finish line at the Raceway.
The Detroit Goddess Half Marathon also offers a virtual run option for runners who can’t make it to Detroit or simply like to sleep in on Sunday mornings.
Race Weather & Climate
Located in southeastern Michigan near the Canadian border, Detroit experiences warm weather in September. However, the weather can turn cool or hot, with record September temperatures as low as 33° (2000) and as high as 100° (1953).
On race day (Sep. 18), the average low is 56ºF and the average high is 74ºF.
