You’ll get the chance to take in amazing views of the Colorado Rocky Mountains along the miles of fast, flat paved pathways and trails that run through Erie, Lafayette and Louisville at this race along the Coal Creek Trail, a mecca for bikers, hikers, walkers, runners and horseback riders here just north of Denver.
The trail stretches just over 6 miles between Lehigh Park in Erie Commons and Aspen Ridge Prep School, all the way south through Lafayette and Louisville, part of a system of trails that also includes the Rock Creek Trail to the south.
From the starting line at Reliance Park, runners follow the trail south and west as it winds its way to the main turnaround point near Erie Municipal Airport.
After they make the turn, runners then retrace their steps all the way back along the route they’ve just run, taking in the gorgeous views of the front range of the Rocky Mountains off in the distance.
Runners and walkers can expect what feels like a fast and flat course — the race elevation ranges from a low of just over 5,000 feet above sea level near the starting line to about 5,175 feet at its highest point near the mid-way point of the race.
An official race t-shirt, goody bag and post-race refreshments will be provided to all runners, and all those who complete the half marathon will receive a finisher’s medal.
