Wisconsin’s Big Green Lake — whose more than 7,300 acres and nearly 30 miles of shoreline here in the state’s southeastern corner have made the area a perennially popular vacation getaway for fishing, boating, golf and a range of outdoor recreation activities — is the setting for the 11th annual Green Lake Area Half Marathon, 10K & 5K.
Runners can expect lots of views of the lake during the race, as nearly all of the first mile and the middle stretch of the race (along miles 4, 5 and 6) take runners near the lake’s shoreline, as well as the race finish on South Street, just a stone’s throw from Dartford Bay looking out into the lake.
And it’s the lake that makes this area such a big attraction for vacationers from Wisconsin and nearby Illinois, especially for its ample opportunities for boating and fishing (including northern pike, largemouth and smallmouth bass, crappie, walleye, channel catfish, lake trout and others).
