The Wooster Heart & Sole Community Run/Walk typically sees several hundred runners and walkers come out for the event each year. Sponsored by Buehler’s Fresh Foods and run as a benefit for the local United Way of Wayne & Holmes Counties, the race unfolds through downtown Wooster, starting at the intersection of North and Market Streets and passing by local sights such as the College of Wooster and Christmas Run Park.
The out-and-back course for the race is by turns flat and fast as well as hilly, and is run entirely on paved surfaces along the city streets and through the neighborhoods of Wooster. Runners in the half-marathon, the 5K and the 10K start the race on Saturday.
For those thinking of participating in the event, you’ll have a choice of running or walking, as both runners and walkers are welcome in both events.
In past years, the race has also been run in conjunction with the annual fall Woosterfest, which brings out local families for the fall- and Halloween-themed event complete with live music, arts and crafts shows, pumpkins and plenty of beer and brats.
Race Weather & Climate
Located in northeastern Ohio, about 35 miles southwest of Akron and roughly 58 miles south of Cleveland, Wooster typically sees its rainiest month of the year in August, which has brought record temperatures here as low as 36°F (in 1982) and as high as 105°F (in 1918).
On race day (Aug. 18), the average low is 59ºF and the average high is 80ºF.
