Overview

Heartland Series Day 5 Half Marathon is one of seven races in the Heartland Series, which runs from July 6 to July 12, 2024. The other races take place in Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, and Minnesota. Everyone who completes all seven races will receive an amazing medal that commemorates their achievement, but you don’t have to complete all seven races if you’re not interested in that – the Clinton race is worth completing all on its own.

This picturesque trail is perfect for runners looking for a challenge, with a start at the intersection of 25th Avenue N and Grant Street, just north of the Sawmill Museum.

Course Description

The course is smooth asphalt with little to moderate shade. You’ll experience elevation gains of approximately 23 feet per lap (and you thought Iowa was totally pancake-flat!). Half marathon runners will complete six laps on the course, totaling 13.1 miles of breathtaking scenery and excitement. The trail offers a mix of river and city views, as it passes through several scenic areas around Clinton. The race starts at 6:00 AM (CT), but early starters for the marathon, half marathon, and 50k are welcome to begin at 5:00 AM.
Food/aid stations are scattered throughout the course, which is unique to Heartland Series races. Rather than having one or two aid stations, the series has a single, gigantic aid station with more than enough food and drink to satisfy every runner. Everything from fruit to jelly beans to sandwiches, water to Gatorade to hot coffee, and everything in between, is available for you to enjoy along the way. So, you won’t have to worry about carrying anything with you!
The Heartland Series Day 5 Half Marathon is open to all levels of runners, and everyone is welcome. The race is walker-friendly, and there is no time limit. The race’s “no runner left behind” policy ensures that everyone finishes, no matter how long it takes.
