Celebrating its 15th year, the Higgins Lake Sunrise Run invites runners into a peaceful early-summer experience nestled in Northern Michigan’s scenic outdoors. Hosted by the Northern Michigan Children’s Assessment Center, this event benefits local youth support services—giving it heart well beyond the miles.
The half marathon starts at 7:30 am at North Higgins Lake State Park and finishes at South Higgins Lake State Park, with a point-to-point route tracing the eastern shore of the lake. The course follows paved lanes mixed with quiet neighborhood streets, rolling gently through forested stretches. The first half has mild climbs, but the final miles flatten out toward a scenic lakeside finish—where runners can even earn a refreshing post-race dip.
Aid stations are spaced every few miles and volunteers cheer through the early morning calm. Packet pickup takes place the evening before and race morning, making logistics smooth and stress‑free .
What sets this race apart is its morning lakeside atmosphere—the sunrise over Higgins Lake mirrored in runners’ smiles, blending fitness and nature. Families can join in the 10K, 5K, and Kids Run, while strollers are allowed on course. With modest registration fees and full community backing, it’s both personal and purposeful.
