Entering its 51st year, the Horsetooth Half Marathon has become a town favourite, and for more reasons than one. Scenic Views, Challenging Course. Offering scenic point-to-point views throughout the course, the Horsetooth Half Marathon is also comprised of challenging hills along the shoreline of Horsetooth Reservoir. A great challenge for first-timers and elite runners alike, this event is unique in that although the climbs are steep, the entire course results in a net loss of elevation, making for a surprisingly fast course.

Starting at Hughes Stadium on Dixon Canyon Drive and ending at New Belgium Brewing, this point-to-point course takes runners along Centennial Drive alongside Horsetooth Reservoir before turning onto Bingham Hill Road and heading east. At mile 8.5, runners enter onto Poudre River Trail until the final sprint toward the finish line at New Belgium Brewing. With a total prize purse of $11,000 for the winner (up $3000 from the year prior), this event is one that brings the competition. If you’re not pushing for the finisher’s award, however, don’t worry – It also happens to be a great community event. After finishing, all participants are welcome to join in on the New Belgium Brewing after-party and post-race expo in Old Town Fort Collins. With free Belgian beverages, post-race food, and live music, it’s a great time for all.
