Overview
Set for its annual late summer running through the city known as the “Hub of Lake County” here in northwest Indiana, roughly an hour’s drive from Chicago, the Hub City Half Marathon takes runners on an out-and-back tour through its winding city streets and historic neighborhoods. Runners start the out-and-back course for the race at the Lake County Fairgrounds, just a short drive south of downtown Crown Point. From there, the race heads south briefly, running a lap around Fancher Lake, before heading north toward downtown Crown Point and onto the Erie Lackawanna Bike Trail.
Course Description
Once you make it to the turnaround point on the bike trail where it intersects with Highway 30, you’ll head back almost entirely along the route you’ve just run all the way back to the Lake County Fairgrounds for the race finish, where there will be a DJ and the traditional post-race snacks and drinks.
For runners who sign up for the half marathon by August 30, you’ll receive a wicking race shirt and a finishers’ medal.
All along the way, you’ll be running through a city whose history dates all the way back to 1834, and where celebrities like Cassius Clay and Rudolph Valentino were said to have been married.
In addition to the half marathon, the race also features a 5K.
