The 13.1 Marathon series of half marathon races returns to the heart of Texas this fall with the third annual running of the Dallas 13.1 Marathon, which will feature a half marathon and 5-mile run that are both open to runners and walkers and join seven other races in the series, in cities ranging from Atlanta to New York to Los Angeles.
Just over 1,900 runners and walkers crossed the finish line in both races combined at the race’s third annual running in 2014, including more than 1,750 finishers in the half marathon alone.
Runners (and walkers, the race is open to both) will start the race along Flora Street near the Dallas Performing Arts Center in the heart of Dallas’s cultural and arts district, within (quite literally) a stone’s throw of the Dallas Museum of Art, the Myerson Symphony Center (the home of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra) as well as the city’s Trammel & Margaret Crow Collection of Asian Art, just three of the city’s true arts treasures.
From there, runners and walkers will head out on an out-and-back course that takes them along paved city streets through the sections of the city known as Uptown and North Dallas. Runners will head north along Gaston Ave to Abrams Rd around the 4 mile mark. Runners then take Winton St, Norris St, and Penrose ave, making their way to Katy Trail.
Then it’s onto a more than four-mile stretch of the Katy Trail, the paved running, walking and biking trail that extends through Dallas’s Uptown and Oak Lawn districts (along the former Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad), and takes runners south all the way back down to Ross Avenue, where they’ll turn left and complete the final mile back in toward the performing arts district and finish back on Flora Avenue.
Runners and walkers will need to be able to finish the 13.1-mile race within the course time limit of 3 hours, 30 minutes, which needs you’ll need to keep a pace of 16 minutes per mile or better in order to finish on time.
