Get ready to work off some of your Thanksgiving leftovers at the 8th annual Moustache Run Half Marathon, 10K & 5K, which takes runners on a tour of Minneapolis along the Mississippi River while raising funds for prostate cancer research.
The half marathon course begins on SE Main Street near Nicolett Island and continues north along SE Main Street before crossing the Plymouth Avenue bridge over the Mississippi River. From there, the bulk of the race takes place along West River Parkway, showing off destinations such as Gold Medal Park and Mississippi Gorge Regional Park, where the course turns around and heads back to the finish line in the same direction. The only deviation in the second half of the course consists of crossing the Stone Arch Bridge and heading toward the finish line from the south instead of the north.
Canine friends welcome to accompany runners; however, dogs are not allowed in the Nicolett Island Pavilion, where race day registration and packet pickup take place. Runners are urged to plan accordingly if they plan on running with their dog.
Race organizers note that bottled water will be provided throughout the race at water stations, both to hydrate runners and to mitigate spills that can freeze, affecting both runners and drivers later in the day.
Race Weather & Climate
Like its neighboring twin city just a few miles east, Minneapolis usually sees cold Novembers with temperatures often dipping below freezing, especially in the latter half of the month. Snow is also a possibility, with 10 inches of snow on average for the month.
On race day (Nov. 30), the average low is 20ºF and the average high is 34ºF.
