Who doesn’t want to help the fight against prostate cancer? And who doesn’t love a good mustache? If you’re both of those people, then there’s a late fall race that’s right for you — the Mustache Half will donate its proceeds to Movember.

Begun just a few years ago as a light-hearted way to raise money and awareness about prostate cancer, the Movember “movement” has surprisingly swept the nation ever since, prompting thousands upon thousands of men to allow their whiskers to grow starting on the first day of November every year.

There are even mustache contests at the end of the month, where men raise money based on the length and quality of their “staches.”

With the end of November by the day of the race, it’s the perfect time to hit the streets, organizers no doubt are thinking. For this event — which really seems more in the spirit of a Meetup event, since (as the organizers say), this is an “unsanctioned, uninsured, unorganized and unrestricted” race — runners will gather in the neighborhood that lies between Atlanta’s Candler Park and Little Five Points areas, at the intersection of McLendon Avenue and Clifton Road.

From there, the course will meander through the sometimes very hilly Candler Park streets, and take runners through Freedom Park and into the outskirts of the Virginia-Highlands district on the way to Piedmont Park, Atlanta’s park crown jewel.

The course will wind all the way around Piedmont’s park roads before turning back onto the Eastside Trail, which will bring runners back through Poncey-Highland for the second half of the race.

Once they’re on the trail, runners basically retrace their steps along the route they ran in the first half, in reverse all the way back to Candler Park for the race finish.
