The race begins near the Naperville city center along Eagle Street, alongside the campus of Naperville Central High School and across the street from Naperville Cemetery and Sportsman Park. From there, the course heads west and then north, over the DuPage River and running alongside Naperville North High School before heading south again.
The final half of the half marathon unfolds through residential neighborhoods and past Pioneer Park, before heading around the Naper Settlement, an outdoor history museum whose most notable structure is probably the 12-room Martin Mitchell Mansion, which dates back to 1883.
Runners cross the finish line back in front of the lake along Eagle Street, and then make their way to the post-race party. The average finishing time for the half marathon in 2013 was 2:15:54, while the average finish time for the full marathon was 4:23:59.
There is a strict 3 hour time limit for the half marathon, so all runners should enter the race ready to finish within the time limit.
