Park Run
High: 98°
/ Low: 27°

Part of an annual arts and music festival that takes place each September in Cedar Rapids called the New Bohemia Festival, the NewBo Run Half Marathon is set to make its 13th annual running on Labor Day weekend this year.

The race takes runners on an out-and-back tour of the park trails and roads that lie just south and east of downtown, which run alongside the river on the Sac & Fox River Trail and through the Indian Creek Nature Center — thanks to the riverside location, most of the race course is fast and flat, though there are occasional hills, particularly in the first few and last few miles coming back in to the city.

Half-Marathon,10k

Runners start the race at the Chrome Horse Saloon on 3rd Street, just across the river from downtown Cedar Rapids. From there, the course follows a few turns before heading onto 15th Avenue Southeast, which becomes Otis Road and brings runners into a stretch where they’ll run through a number of the city’s parks and green spaces — from Van Vechten Park to Cedar Valley Park, and past Prairie Park. After the first three miles, where runners can expect some rolling hills, the course flattens out as it winds east and then northeast along Otis Road, roughly in parallel with the bend in the river as it keeps winding northward to the half-way point and then turnaround on Bertram Road. The course crosses over a bridge on Bertram at Indian Creek and then makes a loop to turn onto the crushed limestone trails, which they’ll follow for roughly the next three and a half miles.
