Runners will make their way north along Gano — and within just a few blocks of the Brown University campus — on their way toward Blackstone Boulevard, the city’s famous tree-lined roadway that leads north up to Lippit Point Park.
There, the course makes a right again onto East Avenue, and continues north in the direction of Pleasant Street Park, taking runners almost all the way into the neighboring city of Pawtucket.
Next, after runners make the turn from Pleasant Street to Spencer Street and then again onto Taft Street — which marks approximately the half-way point of the half marathon — runners then begin the trek south back toward Providence.
Then, runners pass by a pair of cemeteries along the waterfront of the Blackstone River as it empties into the Providence Harbor, and then rejoin Blackstone Boulevard for a second, mile-and-a-half-long stretch south toward Blackstone Park.
Here, the course makes a left and brings runners along the waterfront again, along the edge of the park on East River Street. They’ll follow it all the way down past the Henderson Bridge and then turn onto Pitman Street, which is followed by a left turn back onto Gano Street.
There, runners will hit what should be familiar terrain, as they’ll run in reverse the first couple of miles they ran early in the race, back along Indian Point Park and the Providence River waterfront.
The home stretch of the race brings runners back to where they started, as they head past the Brown and Rhode Island School of Design campuses to City Hall Park, where they’ll cross the finish line.
