Organized and hosted by the Sierra Vista Sunrise Rotary club, the race begins along South Saint Andrews Drive, between Huachuca Mountain Elementary School and Sierra Vista United Methodist Church. From there, you’ll head south along South Saint Andrews for the first mile of the race, until you hit Kachina Trail.

After you make the right turn onto Kachina, you’ll make your way past local parks, residential neighborhoods and a wildlife refuge, as you wind your way south along South Calle Encina, East Yaqui Street and South Nez Perce Avenue. The turn onto East Pawnee Drive will bring you past a wildlife refuge as you keep heading south toward Ramsey Canyon Road, the stretch that will bring you to the half-way turnaround point of the race, just as you’re approaching the Ramsey Canyon Preserve. Once there, you’ll make the turn around East Calle Coro, Arrowhead Lane and East Calle Mano before heading back onto Ramsey Canyon Road to begin the second half of the race back to where you began, at Huachuca Mountain Elementary School.

Set for its 12th annual running this fall under the wide-open skies of southern Arizona’s high desert country, the Sunrise Rotary Rising Sun Run takes runners on an out-and-back route that leads them on a — as the name suggests — rising run from the starting line to the half-way point, at the Ramsey Canyon Preserve.
