Run as a benefit for the Arthritis Foundation (which also organizes the “Joints in Motion” marathon training programs around the country every year), the Rochester Half-Marathon & 5k takes runners on a course that crosses the Genesee River and unfolds through the downtown areas and intown residential neighborhoods of this scenic city in western upstate New York.

The start is in Maplewood park, and takes runners around the north side of the city over 4 different bridges, weaving around the Genesee River. Runners will head northeast on Maplewood drive toward Riverside Street before turning right on Bridgeview Drive. They will then continue on Maplewood Drive until they take a right onto Lake Avenue. Runners pass the historic Riverside Cemetery and meet up with the Genesee Riverway trail. The course takes participants through the beautiful Turning point park staying on the river trail until Petten Street. After taking a right off Lake Avenue, the course goes over O’Rorke Bridge where runners will be able to see the Port at Charlotte and Lake Ontario on their left. The course continues to show off the beauty of Northern Rochester, as runners make their way towards Seneca park, crossing over their second bridge. Then, half marathon runners will head south, staying on the river trail, crossing the river again at Middle Falls and continuing on the trail to Brewer Street. After passing the brewery runners will cross over the Point De Rennes Bridge to the finish line in front of Frontier Field on Morrie Silver Drive. The course is mostly flat, with only two hills, as runners weave their way through Rochester’s beautiful parks and cross 4 historic bridges.
