The Rodeo Valley Trail Run has been showcasing the rugged beauty of the Marin Headlands since the early 2010s. Hosted by Inside Trail Racing at scenic Rodeo Beach, this multifaceted trail event (8K, half marathon, 30K, and 50K) draws dedicated and casual runners alike to its coastal single-track and dramatic elevation changes.
Starting steps from historic Fort Cronkhite, the half marathon spans approximately 13.1 miles of steep pitches and sweeping descents. The undulating trail, including the SCA Trail and Pirate’s Cove vistas, delivers panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean, Golden Gate Bridge, and lush headlands scenery. Wildlife sightings—ranging from foxes and coyotes to occasional bobcats—add to the immersive experience.
With a 7:15 AM start on race day and close to 400 total participants across all distances, the field stays intimate yet energized. Inside Trail Racing’s aid stations are well-stocked with GU gels, Skratch hydration, fruit, pretzels, and more—critical fuel on a course as challenging as its scenery is spectacular.
Participants consistently praise the support and vibe:
“The Marin Headlands never disappoint! Rodeo Valley Trail run was a fun morning of fog, climbs, descents, trails, miles & smiles.”Â
As part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, the event champions environmental stewardship. The community-driven race offers tech tees, finisher medals, and awards galore—from top finishers to a fun “Dead Last” trophy—while offering a nature-first trail experience unlike any other.
