You’ll need to be ready for a difficult, challenging 13.1-mile race course at the annual fall running of this eastern Nebraska town’s Bohemian Alps Endurance Run Half Marathon, which starts and finishes downtown and features terrain that changes from paved to gravel to dirt roads, and mixes in off-road cross-country and biking trails through the hilly forest areas just outside town.
From the starting line at Brainard’s downtown City Park, runners follow an out-and-back loop course that features ample views of the natural beauty surrounding the town, from the farmland that stretches out to the west virtually as far as the eye can see as well as the oak-tree-covered hills to the east of town.
