Immerse yourself in Nebraska’s untamed side with the Pine Ridge Trails Race Series, an annual celebration of rugged prairie terrain near Chadron State Park. Now hosted by Chadron Community Recreation under permit with the Nebraska National Forests & Grasslands, the series includes the Run for the Hills trail run (1–2 mile walk/run, 5K, 10K, and the brand-new half marathon) set for Saturday, June 14, 2025.
Race Experience:
The courses follow gravel forest roads, single-track paths and scenic overlooks like the Black Hills Overlook and Steamboat Trail. Expect pine-scented woodlands, rolling hills, and panoramic canyon views that defy Nebraska’s flatland reputation. Trail runners will encounter varied terrain—from smooth runnable sections to technical, root-strewn stretches.
What Makes It Unique:
A local-rooted, low-key series with options for all skills—even a newly added half marathon. It blends community spirit with true trail running: handmade swag, volunteer support, modest entry fees ($45 for the half) and a “you thought Nebraska was flat, right?” tagline that reflects the pride of the landscape. Series also includes mountain bike events and shorter trail runs, making it a nature-centered festival rather than a one-off race.
Participants praise the “true trail feel” and small-group camaraderie. The half marathon’s debut elevates the event from casual fun to a substantial endurance challenge—while still retaining its grassroots charm.
