Sunday, December 7, 2025, marks a new era in Alamo City’s running tradition: the San Antonio Marathon & Half Marathon, hosted by San Antonio Sports and replacing the long-standing Rock ’n’ Roll Marathon series. The event kicks off a festive weekend, following the industry-leading Running Event (TRE) conference downtown at the Henry B. González Convention Center.
A City in Every Mile
Both races start and finish at Hemisfair, then wind through San Antonio’s historic neighborhoods—Southtown, King William, Olmos Park, and Alamo Heights. Runners pass iconic landmarks like The Alamo, Fort Sam Houston, and lush greenery of Brackenridge Park, with themed miles celebrating local heritage (e.g., Fiesta Mile, Military Mile, Culinary Mile) for a storytelling journey by foot.
Race Experience
The Half Marathon begins at 7:15 AM CST on December 7 (subject to change), offering a 4‑hour cutoff and eight well-spaced aid stations with electrolyte support. The full Marathon starts simultaneously, with a 7‑hour cutoff and 17 water stations. Post-race celebrations ignite at Hemisfair with Fiesta-style festivity, medals, and branded shirts honoring San Antonio’s inaugural running tradition.
What Makes It Special
This is more than a run—it’s a cultural ribbon around the heart of San Antonio. Locally organized, the SATX Marathon reinvests in community health and sports, while offering Boston-qualifier certification (marathon). It aims to draw 18,000+ participants, putting the city firmly on the running-world map.
