But let’s talk about the course first – it’s a real gem. This USATF-certified course is an out-and-back on paved surfaces, with the start and finish at McEuen Park’s Avista Pavilion. You’ll be taking in the beauty of Lake Coeur d’Alene, with stunning views of the sparkling blue waters that will help carry you through this challenging half marathon.
The 10K and half marathon courses take in long sections of the famous North Idaho Centennial Trail, which is a wide and well-maintained paved path. Speaking of the half marathon – this is where the real fun begins. It’s called the Crown Jewel for a reason, as about 70% of the course is along the North Idaho Centennial Trail with phenomenal views of Lake Coeur d’Alene.
But let’s not forget about the challenge – there is one gradual climb at Bennett Bay, beginning at mile 4.6 up to mile 5.1. You’ll be rewarded with an aid station at the top. From mile 5.1 to 6.55, the course is mostly downhill. There are timing points on the course to give you 3.1mi, 6.55mi, 10mi, and 13.1mi splits, to help you push through to the finish line.
