The 24th edition of the Town Crier Races brings coastal charm and community pride to Michigan’s “Art Coast,” offering 5K walk, 5K run/walk, 10K, half marathon, and kids’ fun run options. A celebration of local school sports, this event has raised over $101,000 for Saugatuck High School’s cross-country and track programs since 2002.
The half marathon starts early at 7:30 am EDT, launching from Saugatuck High School and transitioning into a scenic point-to-point route. Highlights include Riverside views of the Kalamazoo River, a lakeside stretch along Lake Michigan, a crossing into Douglas, and a festive finish at Beery Field. Runners enjoy well-marked streets, enthusiastic volunteer support, and age-group awards—all on a mostly flat, fast course ideal for PRs or casual enjoyment.
All participants receive a custom t-shirt, finisher medal, bib, and completion certificate, with a lively small-town atmosphere and guaranteed cheers “whether you brought your own or not”. Though strollers and dogs aren’t permitted due to local regulations, families are encouraged to engage in the kids’ run and spectate along the route.
This race is unique for its lakeshore setting, school-supported mission, and inclusive spirit—without losing on organization or participant experience. It’s an ideal destination run for PR seekers, community-minded families, and lovers of small-town Michigan charm.
