The Verrazano Half Marathon, 10K & 5K offers the sweeping views of New York City generally reserved for the movies.
The course consists of three loops, each departing from the American Veterans Memorial Pier, a well-loved Brooklyn fishing spot. Runners will race in a designated and well-marked runner’s lane, and will not have to contend with cars as they make their way through the course.
Along the way, runners will enjoy views of the New York City skyline and the Verrazano Bridge, a 13,700-foot suspension bridge connecting Staten Island and Brooklyn.
The bridge takes its namesake from the Italian explorer Giovanni da Verrazzano, the first documented European explorer to enter New York Harbor and the Hudson River. (The extra “z” in Verrazzano’s name—and its longtime omission from the bridge’s own—has been a hot debate since the bridge’s dedication in 1964.)
Participants will have 3 hours to complete the half marathon, which loops between the American Veterans Memorial Pier to the Verrazano Bridge. Volunteers will be present to guide runners at the turnarounds.
