The Wausau 24, set to take place from July 26 to July 28, 2024, stands as the Midwest’s premier 24-hour mountain bike race, offering a range of categories to cater to every competitor’s challenge level. Whether you’re up for the grueling solo 24-hour battle or prefer the camaraderie of a 2-person 6-hour relay, this event promises not just competition but a vibrant community atmosphere, punctuated with live music and local craft beer, ensuring a memorable weekend.
Adding to the excitement, the Wausau Trail Run, now in its fourth year, coincides with the event, featuring 5K, 10K, and Half Marathon distances that promise to deliver an equally thrilling experience for running enthusiasts.
2024 introduces a streamlined approach to the Solo Champion category. Now, all participants in any 24 or 12-hour solo race automatically qualify for the overall win across various categories, including Junior, Masters, Open, and Single-Speed. With cash prizes for the top male and female finishers, the competition is set to be fierce. The unique Le Mans start will see all racers sprinting to their bikes, adding an extra layer of excitement.
The Masters category sees an adjustment, now requiring participants to be 50 or older on race day. Additionally, with record attendance last year, the event emphasizes the importance of tent camping and carpooling to accommodate everyone comfortably. While camper vans and small trailers are welcome, the use of generators remains restricted to the Main Lot, which will also host a limited number of larger RVs and campers by prior registration.
