The 12th annual Wild Azalea Trail Run is a relentless journey spanning 26 miles through the Evangeline Ranger District of the Kisatchie National Forest, just beyond Alexandria, Louisiana. This challenging trail, the longest continuous trail in the state, invites daring runners to confront its beauty and rugged topography.
Bearing the scars of mud, floods, tornadoes, and even the pandemic, the Wild Azalea remains an unyielding test for trail runners and bikers. This no-nonsense, “old school way” event eschews the usual trappings of civilization, opting for the raw experiences of trial, pain and suffering, seasoned with trail rash, beer, gumbo, and jambalaya.
The Wild Azalea offers well-maintained trails, visible markers, and six participant classes, including the 10K Run, 13.1 Mile Run, 27 Mile Ultra Run, 50 Mile Ultra Run, 27 Mile Mountain Bike, and 50 Mile Mountain Bike. The trail traverses diverse ecosystems, challenging participants with varying terrains.
This event proudly upholds its “NO WHINING” ethos, discouraging Wendy Whiners and maintaining the region’s most budget-friendly prices for trail running. Visit the Wild Azalea’s Facebook page for updates, additional info, and a forum to address any race-related queries.
