Event Details

Set for its inaugural running in the fall of 2009 through the fast and flat streets of Mesa, just east of the Phoenix metro area in southern Arizona, the Run From The Sun Half Marathon, 5K & Family Fun Run is sponsored and organized by the locally based Deseret A & L Institute, which seeks to raise awareness of the importance of skin cancer prevention and to promote wider adoption and use of sunscreen.

From the starting line in Mesa's Hohoken Park, which lies just across Center Street from the Mesa Cemetery, runners first make a loop around the edges of the park and then head north on Center up to McKellips Road, where they take a right and head eastward. The out-and-back loop course then follows a clockwise direction through the city, taking runners past local landmarks like the Mesa Arizona Temple and the Mesa Country Club before taking the field back around to the start, back at Hohoken Park.

If you're familiar with the Phoenix-Tempe-Mesa area, then you're well aware of what the terrain is like -- runners can expect a largely flat race on paved roads throughout. In keeping with the mission of the race to promote healthy skin and skin cancer prevention, the organizers will offer all runners a free skin analysis, and the event will also host a 5K race as well as a 1.5-mile fun run for both adults and children.

Race Weather & Climate
